Description
1941 Packard 160 Super Eight Convertible Coupe Deluxe, designated a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America. This exceptionally rare Deluxe model was produced for one year only, 1941, with just 99 examples built. This Packard is number 21 of those 99. The Deluxe Convertible Coupe is one of Packard's most desirable prewar models and represents an extraordinary combination of rarity, originality, provenance, and elegance.
Finished in the striking and highly desirable Andes Tan over Wilshire Brown, this Packard has a truly majestic appearance, beautiful chrome, newer wide whitewall tires, Packard floor mats, and a new canvas convertible top and boot. The Andes Tan Paint above the beltline is original factory paint; the Wilshire Brown below the beltline has been repainted. The car is rust-free and has never undergone a complete restoration or been fully taken apart.,
Perhaps the most remarkable feature of this Packard is its exceptionally original interior. It has never been redone and remains in show-winning condition. The factory interior features glove-soft leather and broadcloth upholstery complemented by beautiful Carpathian burled elm and American walnut wood trim, all retianing a wonderful natural patina. The original VIN plate remains in its original location and has never been removed, an increasingly rare detail on a prewar automobile. Even the original Earle C. Anthony Packard lubrication reminder remains attached to the visor.
This Packard was sold new in California by Earle C. Anthony Packard and remained in California for approximately the first 80 years of its life and ownership. It retains books, records, receipts, and history from new, providing an exceptional record of its provenance and care. Its long California history is particularly significant given its completely rust-free condition.
The car has been recognized at numerous prestigious classic-car events and has earned multiple awards in the Tri-state area in recent years, including Best Original Car at the CCCA Grand Classic in Boca Raton, Florida; Excellent in Class at the Cavallino Classics in Florida; and Excellent in Class at the 2019 Palm Beach Concours. The Best Original Car award is particularly meaningful because it recognizes the exceptional authenticity and preservation of this Packard rather than simply the quality of a restoration.
The Packard runs and drives excellent. Gauges and the overdrive work properly. While the car has never been fully restored or taken apart, it has received extensive mechanical, electrical, and preservation work to ensure that it remains reliable and enjoyable while retaining its original character. Work completed since 2015 includes a new convertible top and boot, a full Rhode Island Wiring harness, stainless-steel polishing, rebuilt starter, generator, carburetor, fuel pump, Optima battery, new battery cables, battery cutoff switch, Mostly new dashboard plastics and knobs, New exhaust system, windshields and rubber components, recast steering wheel, electronic turn signals, electric booster fuel pump, and re-veneered wood window moldings. Front end Alignment and repair as needed, check and adjust Brakes and more.
For the serious collector, it is often the small original details that make a car truly special. The untouched interior, original VIN plate, original paint above the beltline, naturally patinated wood trim, Earle C. Anthony lubrication reminder, extensive documentation, and long California history all contribute to the authenticity and character of this automobile. These are details that cannot be recreated once lost.
There are many restored Packards available to collectors, but considerably fewer that retain this combination of originality, rarity, provenance, documentation, and concours recognition. This is a one-year-only Deluxe Model Full Classic, number 21 of just 99 produced, with an original interior that has never been redone, an original VIN plate that has never been removed, original paint above the beltline, beautiful original wood trim with natural patina, and a documented history extending back to its sale new by Earle C. Anthony Packard in California.
Currently part of the Tom Crook Collection, this exceptional Packard is ready for showing, cruising, touring, CCA events, or simply enjoying one of Packard's finest and most elegant prewar automobiles. Inquires: Cory Crook 206-595-5531
